  General Notes:

Peter Morris notes:
John E. Bellamy was my grandfather and his middle name was Ernest.
He was born Dec.9, 1877 and died Aug.16, 1951. He lived most of his life in the North Rocks/Carlingford/West Epping area.
John Ernest Bellamy spent most of his life in the Carlingford district. As a child he lived for some time with his grandmother Ann Mobbs who, after the death of her husband, had married Isaac Mobbs and he later worked for Isaac. John was, for the best part, a carrier and had a number of horses and carts. His son, Collin recounts that John (or 'Jack' to the family, 'Cracker' to his friends and 'Grump' to his grandchildren) gave up being a carter when the petrol engine took over and he had to dispose of his beloved horses. He then worked, quite successfully, as a landscape gardener and orchardist. As a landscape gardener he became well known around the area designing and building tennis courts, bowling greens as well as residential gardens, indeed, he designed and built the greens at the original Epping Bowling Club, near the railway line.
On December 6, 1898, John married Mabel Maggie Barnes (a girl from the city) at St.Anne's, Strathfield. As recounted by son Collin, Strathfield was half way between Surry Hills and Epping and this was why the particular church was chosen. It was in 1904 that John, Mabel and their, at the time, three children, moved to the timber town of Canning in Western Australia where he worked in the local timber mill. It should be remembered that during the 1890s Australia was in the grip of a severe economic depression and work was scarce. At the same time, from 1892 through to 1898 there were discoveries of gold at Coolgardie and Kalgoorlie with a consequent upturn in the local and state economy.
After returning from Western Australia in 1907 they stayed at Pitt Row (Merrylands) for some years before moving back into the more familiar 'Bellamy' territory of North Rocks (Murray Farm Road) and then Carlingford (Carlingford Road). This was the period 1912-1922. In 1922 the family moved to 5 Ryde Street at West Epping and in 1926 they purchased the house which became the 'family home' and for many years the core place of the family. On 16th August, 1951 when his grandson, Peter, who was sick that day and home alone from school, John Ernest Bellamy suffered a heart attack and died, in the front garden among his roses that he loved so much. He was cremated at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium.
