  General Notes:

Peter Morris notes:
Edward (Jack) Bellamy, also born at Pitt Row, became a motor mechanic working for the leading garages in the Epping area and when he had set up his own business, a garage near to Hornsby railway station, took as his apprentice, Neil Bellamy, the son of John's youngest brother Stanley. John also served as a mechanic with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) during the Second World War (1940-1945) rising to the rank of sergeant with the 6 Aircraft Depot. He was in service from Sept. 1940 to Oct. 1945. On July 29. 1939 he married an Epping girl, May (Maisie) Florence Downes (b. May 22, 1913) at St.Alban's, Epping.
There is evidence that Jack had had a previous marriage to a Violet Dickie at Portland in 1932. However, at this stage we have not found any details of any issue or a divorce, although there was a death of a Violet Bellamy at Sutherland in 1947.
In 1968, two years before his sister, John and May packed up and went 'hobby-farming' at Ellalong, not too far from where his grandfather was born and his great-grandfather had died. 'They knew nothing of that except, after seeing graves at Wollombi wondering "if they belong to us". John and May had no children and John died in July 1974 and was a cremated at Beresfield with his ashes being placed at Northern Suburbs Crematorium. May lived on at Ellalong for a few years before moving to Tascott on the Central Coast and with failing health she then moved to Manly. Totally unlike her father, May was a bright and bubbly person up until her death on October 21, 2000.

Sue Hoult notes:
There is ANOTHER John Edward Bellamy who did marry Violet Irene Dickie
and they remained married and living together well after the marriage of Peter's John Edward Bellamy's marriage to May Downs. BDM, census records etc confirm same.

Peter Morris later added:
was correct in that there were two John Edward Bellamys. I had not fully researched these and thought it was possible that my John Edward could have been the one who married at Portland as he went tro the country during the depression. What makes the whole thing stranger is that the two John Edward Bellamys were actually distantly related via their Hockley family links.
So Suzanne's comment forced me to look a bit futher into the matter.

John married May Downs on 29 Jul 1939 in St Albans C of E, Epping, Sydney, NSW Australia. (May Downs was born on 22 May 1913 and died on 21 Oct 2000 in Manly, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
