Frederick was born at Weymouth, Dorset in England. And his childhood, reportedly quite pleasant, was spent following his father in his Queensland travels before settling at Rockhampton.
When the family came to New South Wales in 1879, Frederick continued to live with his parents until the 27th March, 1889. With his uncle, George Hounsell, officiating at the wedding ceremony at the family home in Marrickville, Frederick married Vida Marsden Alderson. His occupation was noted at the time as 'Warehouseman'. It is possible that he was then working for W. & A. MacArthur, a well known wholesaling company of the era as he later represented them as a commercial traveller. Still later he worked in this capacity for Robert Reid & Co., perhaps the largest 'rag-trade' dealer of the day in Sydney. Frederick's territory was, basically, the NSW south coast and he would catch the train to Bomaderry (Nowra) carrying his samples in suitcases and from there he would employ a team of horses to cover his sales area.
Following his marriage to Vida they lived for some years in Henley Street, Drummoyne after which they moved, rather regularly as can be seen below. Frederick died in 1929 and is buried in the Presbyterian section of Northern Suburbs cemetery.

Frederick married Vida Marsden Alderson, daughter of William Henry Alderson and Charlotte Gosper, on 27 Mar 1889 in Marrickville, Sydney, NSW Australia.
