Hounsells are of interest because just before Robert and Mary Ann came to Queensland with their son Frederick Mary Ann's brother George Hounsell with his wife, Sarah (nee Harris) had come to Rockhampton with their son Frederick.
George had an interesting life in Australia and NZ.
Mary Ann was born, as was her twin sister, Emma Jane, at Upwey in Dorset, England. Her parents were Thomas Hounsell (a monumental mason), b. 1819 and Sarah, nee Amor, b.1817. They had married at St. Peters, Dorchester in 1838.
The 1841 UK Census has Mary Hounsell, age 1 and living at Lyme Regis, Dorsetshire. And the 1861 UK Census shows Mary A Hounsell, age 21, niece of head of household, born at Dorchester, Dorset as residing at 1 St. Mary's Terrace, Paddington, London, Middlesex.
Mary Ann married Robert Morris in December 1861. A daughter was born but died in infancy and in February 1864 a son, christened Frederick James was born at Weymouth. When the family had settled in Rockhampton, both the Hounsell and Morris children attended the local schools in the area and both families have had similar stories passed down regarding the children playing with the aborigines of the local tribe and having, apparently, a most enjoyable upbringing.
After the death of Robert in 1896 Mary Ann went to live with her son, George Hounsell Morris, who resided in Corrimal Street, Wollongong. She died from an angina attack on December 2, 1899 (the undertaker was another of her sons, Archibald) and she was buried two days later in the Wesleyan section of Rookwood Cemetery.
Mary married Robert Payne Morris, son of Joseph Morris and Elizabeth Raishleigh, on 15 Dec 1861 in Poplar, London, Middlesex England. (Robert Payne Morris was born on 2 Oct 1842 in Broadwey, Dorset England (now Weymouth) 1037 and died on 4 Aug 1896 in Marrickville, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
