Abraham Luya
(1801-1863) |
Abraham Luya
General Notes: source: & Vince Nutley who is researching for Antony Ian Luya Gregory who suggest that he died 11 Feb 1863 rather than the 4th I originally had so I've wondered whether 11th was the burial date? Noted events in his life were: • fact. Possibly christened 31 January 1802 at Spitalfields Christ Church Stepn ey London. Marriage certificate information: Abraham Luya, bachelor of this parish a nd township of Marple, clerk to the attorney, and Maria Fleetwrood, spinster of the Parish of Glossop in the township of Ludworth, were married in t his church by license, by E. Halwell BD Curate. Both parties signed the register in their own hand. Witnesses were _ Hopwood and John Wood. Died 11 February or 4 February 1863? Book Keeper Wanted for absconding with funds. Ran away to join his son in Australia. Arrived in 1860. Abraham embezzeled the sum of £3700 from his firm and the "currency exchange" states that this: £188884.20 in the year 2002 has the same "purchase power" as £3700 in t he year 1859. And in Australian terms this is $483,458.01 - quite a sum of money to run off to Australia with - no Will has been lodged for Abraham in NSW, so one assumes that his son Abraham Fleetwood Luya got what was left of his fathers ill gotten gains - quite a windfall to found a business with in Queensland where no one would question his money! This son moved to Qld within one year of his fathers death. 1843 Gores Abraham Luya Supt St James and Cleveland Square Markets 16 Windsor Terrace Upper Parliament St Gore's Directory of Liverpool and Its Environs 1853 Abraham Luya, superintendent of markets, 52 Chatham Street 1855 Liverpool Directory Abraham Luya Supt of Markets. res: - 52 Chatham St. 1851 Census: 1851 census Liverpool (Toxteth Park) Salisbury Street & No. 6 Court, Salisbury View, Ann Street & No. 4 Court, Back Salisbury St, Church St., Soho, William Henry St., Rokeby St. including nos. 1 and 3 Courts.
