• fact. Sponsor :- myra maley. Mervyn Thomas ( Bill ) was 4th child of Frank & Mary Moloney & was born at home- Coronation St, Werris Creek. He married Agnes Baker at Strathfield in 1951 & they lived 1953 to 1998 at Como, NSW, before moving to 27 Shoveller Pde, Paradise Point,Qld, where they still live. On 14th april 1988 Bill was accidently burnt while working. Taken from local paper - HEADLINE - WORKER CATCHES FIRE IN ELECTRICAL BLAST- shoppers looked on in horror as the clothes on a council worker caught fire after an electrical explosion in the Southport Mall yesterday. The labourer was was using a jack hammer about 1pm when a loud bang errupted. Witnesses said the force of the explosion hurled him across the pavement & his shirt & shorts caught on fire. An ambulance rushed him to Gold Coast Hospital & then to Brisbanes Prince Alexandra Hospital. " He seemed to be in extreme shock," said Mr Herbert Gardam whose nearby fabric shop ended up being filled with smoke from the blast. Southport Mall Liason Officer John Cameron-Smith said the man's jack hammer struck an underground live electrical cable. Power to dozens of businesses in the area was cut while SEQEB workers assessed the damage. One bank conducted it's business by candle light. -end of quote - .
