Napoleonic War 1803 - John provided Wagon No. 5 for possible evacuation of Hurst citizens. His wagon was to carry 20 people: Head Driver: Thomas Simmonds , mate : Henry Dinman. Mrs Marchant, 5 children, 2 maids. Mrs Hannington, 2 children and servant, Mrs Marshall and servant, Mary Ann Weekes, Grace Weekes, Fr ance s Week es and servant.
1834 Poor Rate mentioned as owning Little Park & West Edgerley
12.5.1838 Described as "our veteran and esteemed cricketter"
18.8.1838 As chairman of Hurst Horticultural Society presented prizes to gent l e men gardeners.
5.4.1839 swore affidavit at Cuckfield and gave address as Little Park
25.5.1839 Presided at Sparrow Club Annual Dinner and gave "The Queen". SARAH PRATT's father JOHN was also a member.
7.11.1840 John Marchant as chairman of Annual Market Dinner at the New Inn g a v e toast "The Queen"
24.12.1842 "On the night of Tuesday week" Little Park was burgled and agai n o n T hursday.

The owner of Thomas Marchant's diary in 2004 also has a mourning brooch containing a lock of John's hair with the inscription "In memory of Mr John Marchant, Li ttle Park, died Feb 12th 1844 aged 75 years"
Will leaves Edgerley and Little Park to Nathan provided sons George and Richard receive £2,400 after the death of John's wife. SEE MARCHANT CD ROM.
