Eldest son of WILLIAM MARCHANT(b. 1701) and inherited from him Little Park, W e s t Edgerly, Black Lion although Copyhold already surrendered before father' s de at h.
Court Book 7.10.1777 THOMAS takes over West Edgerley and East Edgerley from de c e ased John Baker on 24.2.1790.
THOMAS paid land tax in 1785 Little Park £70, West Edgerly £25, House £2 and E a s t Edgerly £36
1780 Poor Rates: THOMAS in possession of Little Park, West Edgeley, East Edgel e y , Breens and Black Lion
1783 Medical register shows THOMAS as apothecary in HPP along with Mr Weekes
1801 Survey: THOMAS was still proprietor occupying Little Park (118 acres), E a s t Edgerley (73 acres) and West Edgerley (57 acres)
According to Weekes Family Diary Dr MARCHANT died of concussion of the brain w h e n his chaise overturned at Offham on the last race day.
Will dated 31.1.1801 and codicil dated 5.6.1802. Will proven 16.9.1802
Bequests:
1. Wife ELIZABETH £50, household goods, chaise & horse, property in HPP Stre e t a nd "Bowling Alley". Property to pass to son John on her death. The righ t t o cont inue to live at Little Park for her lifetime.
2. £1,800 in Trust for late son WILLIAM's children - in return WILLIAM's sha r e o f Little Park released to youngest brother John
3. Middle son Thomas receives £1,500 but should release his share of Little P a r k to John
4. £800 in Trust for daughter Mary Knight and her family but to release her sh a r e of Little Park to John
5. THOMAS's third part share in land at Ifield and Charlswood to be sold
6. WILLIAM's heir plus Thomas and Mary receive 5% share of Little Park leavi n g J ohn 85%
7. Little Park to fund the money bequests
8. Residue to son John
