Was she a relati o n o f JANE NYE born 1815? A Catherine Nye (b. West Grinstead) married Henry Mi tc hel l (b. 1810/11) in Hurstpierpoint 1848. 1837 Cricket player as were his brothers George and Richard but probably the b e t ter player. 30.5.1839 14th anniversary of Hurstpierpoint Union Society. George provided fi e l d for cricket match. 8.2.1845 presented with 3rd prize at Sparrow Club In 1847 he was President of this club and won 2nd prize 13.2.1847 1847 Constable and Farmer (selected 20.9.1842 - address shown as Little Park) Churchwarden at Hurstpierpoint. C1851 Nathan shown as Land Proprietor living at Pitts - unmarried Carey Hampton Borrer wrote in his diary for 27 January 1852: Hannington sa i d t o have bought Little Park Estate of the Marchants, a respectable old fami l y redu ced to nothing by irreligion, and on 25 March: The infamous N Marchan t re signe d his office of Churchwarden. C1871 Still at Pitts as a retired farmer with Jane White as housekeeper plu s h e r family At death in 1873 described as son of John Marchant late of Little Park National Probate Calendars at Guildhall Library Deat cert dated 5/7/1873: Nathan died of chronic cystitis. Witness Jane Whit e ( i lliterate). Nathan Marchant, Gent of HPP died 1.7.1873. Will proved by Edward Duke of 2, Q u e ens Square, Middlesex Effects under £100 although he inherted Little Park from his father who had de a t h duties of £25,000.
