• source. Rita Dowdall @ genes who writes:
[grayfamilytree.FTW] [learmouth.FTW] John Learmonth married twice. His first wife can not be traced to the cemetery where she is buried. She did die in Falkirk at the toll where she was keeper. John worked on various farms in the central belt and mostly with horses. He met his first wife on the farm he was working but in tracing both families their were more links through work and census returns, these were both living in Thornhill and St Ninians. You take your pick how these two met but both families were aware of each other. His second marriage had a big issue and it was this wife who brought up the first family and by all accounts they had no problems. J L jnr even wanted his wife to name Janet Wardrope Learmonth after Maryann Walker but Maryann Sneddon put her foot down and named it after his natural mother due to their being one named already in the family. John and Maryann are buried in Grandsable Cemetery, Grangemouth along with other family members from the second union. John led the church choir for many years and received medals that were attached to a family watch chain. I have still the watch but the chain and medals was given to my uncle Andrew who gave them to Eustis Don and have not been returned on his death. His daughter still stays close and I do not know what she makes of the Masonic medals and medallions.
