Alf Bray fought as a foot patrol soldier in his Australian Army service in the jungles of New Guinea from 1939 to 1945 during World War II. He received the Oak Leaf Medal for bravery, and was mentioned in dispatches by the then Governor General of Australia. Having returned from the war, he became a Sydney Harbour ferry boat captain. He was introduced to Audrey Marguerite LOW (a war time friend of Alf's younger sister Eileen Bray - as Eileen Bray and Audrey Low had been serving together in Australian as Army 'morse code' communications personnel). Alfred Allen Bray and Audrey Marguerite LOW were married on 13 July 1947 at the St George Church of England chapel in Hurstville NSW. Alf Bray later careers were as a vacuum salesman; commercial traveller, a business owner reconditioning white goods, and mostly as a very successful AMP insurance salesman until his retirement ion 1983.
05 March 1995, Alfred Allen Bray fell and suffered a head injury and was admitted to Sutherland Shire Public Hospital. Three days later on 08 March 1995, he entered into a coma from an undiagnosed cerebral hemorrhage and was transferred at midnight to Randwick Prince of Wales hospital. Four days later, on 12March1995, Alf Bray died while a patient in hospital in Randwick NSW.
Seven years later, on 26Nov2002, Audrey Marguerite BRAY (nee:LOW) died while a resident of the Alexandra Lodge Nursing Home, Ashmore QLD after a long deterioration in her health.
Both Alfred Allen Bray & Audrey Marguerite Bray (nee: LOW) are buried at Lots 174A and 174B at the Woronora General Lawn Cemetery No. 4 - in Linden St, Sutherland NSW.
