James Albert Smith
(1911-1995) |
James Albert Smith
Noted events in his life were: • source. Vickey Robinson @ genes • fact. Jim completed his education at 15 and left school to work as an apprentice electrician. He eventually gave this up to work as an ambulance man / driver for the local Fryston pit. He worked as an ambulance man from 1926 until 1935. Jim decided to work down the mine soon after the marriage, as they needed the money. They were buying a house, and wanted a family, so a larger income was needed. He did this until he retired from underground work about 1960. He then continued to work for the NCB until he retired from this in 1965. He then changed his employment completely, and went to work as a partner in a garage as the manager, this continued until 1969, when the business was terminated. Jim by this time was 58 years old, and had decided he wanted an easier life, with less worry and stress, so he went to work for the local council as a driver and did this until 1976 when he retired. Jim died in 1995, and until the end of his life, he kept a lively mind and an interest in everything going on around him. Two months before his death, he was riding a scramble bike around a friend's garden, "just to see how it feels". • connection. 349 Diane & Robert Davies are connected to me in this way: James married Gwendoline Sixsmith on 2 Apr 1934 in Methodist Church, Glass Houghton, Yorkshire England.
