• fact. Tom and Lilly owned the 'Cosy Fisheries' on Bridge Street, Castleford. Tom was at one time 'Master' of the 'Fish Fryers Union'. He was also a very close friend of Harry Ramsden; they together developed the batter, which eventually came to be used in both shops, and was a closely guarded secret. This batter was later to help make the Ramsden name.
