William George Conwell was born in 1877 in Sydney and married Mary Emma Turpin on the 11^th October 1897. William was Catholic, Emma Protestant. He was ostracized by his Catholic grandmother (Mary Loudon) when he married. She refused to meet the new wife, and threw hot water on them from the verandah when they came to visit.
In 1930 the family was living at 30 Spring Street, Waverley and William worked on the docks. He carried 2 Waddies, one ordinary one and one shillelagh (an Irish cudgel of blackthorn or oak).

William married Mary Emma Turpin on 11 Oct 1897 in Sydney, NSW Australia.¹²⁸⁴ (Mary Emma Turpin was born on 12 Jul 1878 in Sydney, NSW Australia and died on 26 Aug 1958 in Matraville, Sydney, NSW Australia ¹²⁸⁴.)
