Death of a Well-known Citizen

The late Mr Truscott was the youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs J.C. Truscott, former wellknown citizens of Emmaville. He completed his secondary education at Newington College and afterwards graduated as a pharmaceutical chemist at the Sydney University. Deceased took up the residence in Muswellbrook about 22 years ago entering business on his own account having purchased Mr Andrews's practice and had continued to carry on his profession with marked success until stricken down by illness in December 1937. The late Mr Truscott who was 49 years of age was held in high esteem by all sections of the community. His ever cheerful countenance and ready wit will be certainly be missed by the large number of people with who he has become associated on the course of his professional and public career. A heavy loss has not only been sustained by deceased family but those not endowed with a surfeit of the worldly goods have lost a good friend whose practice was always to help the sick in a practical way. "Percy" as he was known to most of us had devoted his life to the welfare of many local activities at the same time caring for the duties of a father in assisting his children in their chosen careers. His son Mr Maxwell Truscott is at present in his final year at the Medical School at the Sydney University.

The late Mr Truscott associated himself with almost every form of sport in Muswellbrook. His favorite game was golf and the marked popularity of the game in the Upper Hunter owes much to the work and enthusiasm which he applied in its interests over many years. From the time that he has taken up the game golfers would want to regard his pharmacy as a meeting place where they talked over their victories or losses on the field of play. The late Mr Truscott has held the position of honorary treasurer, Captain A and B Grade teams and for the past four years held the position of President, always carrying out the duties of the respective offices with conspicuous success.

Inn other spheres of sport he was found be taking active part. He was president of the Bowman Park Cricket Club and a vice president of the Muswellbrook District Cricket Association, Football Club and Rifle Club. Deceased had entered the Municipal Council on the occasion of the last triennial elections and had rendered valuable service as a member of the various committees until ill\endash health precluded him from carrying out his aldermanic duties. 371
