Ken Gray notes: He lived on a part of his father's farm given him when his father died, about one and a half miles west of the present town of North Anson, and for some years was postmaster of a post office maintained at his home, called "West Anson". About 1857 he moved into North Anson and was postmaster there also, and town clerk and selectman for a number of years. He was also a surveyor for a number of years and made it part of his business to locate immigrants in the West, particularly in Ohio where his brother Daniel had located, and made several trips into Ohio. When he moved into North Anson (18570 he gave his farm, or part of it to his son, George Barrett Gray, including his dwelling house which is still standing (1914) and is now owned by the town of Anson and is used as a home for the poor.
Thomas married Sarah Cragin, daughter of Captain John Cragin and Ruth Heald, on 5 Jun 1825. (Sarah Cragin was born on 28 Sep 1800 in Temple, New Hampshire USA and died on 8 Dec 1889.)
