He was an assisted passenger and a farm worker from Hampshire, England. On arrival in Australia he was to work for a Mr. Pattison of Plenty River for wages of 120/- for 5 months with rations. (confirmed from the shipping list, copy held at the society of Australian Genealogists, Sydney). The story handed down is that William did not go to work for Mr. Pattison but went straight to the Gold-fields. He later selected land at Pyalong, Victoria. William passed away the 23rd January 1876 from disease of the liver. He wrote his last will on the 2nd October 1875 only a couple of months before he died. The will reads as follows: This is the last Will and Testament of me William Hiscock of Pyalong in the Colony of Victoria, Farmer. After payment of my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses I give devise and Bequeath unto my daughter Emma for her use and benefit during her natural life One hundred and thirty eight acres of land more or less. After her death this land is to be sold and the proceeds to be divided into eight equal divisions as follows:- The oldest of my son Robert's children, the oldest of my son William's children: the oldest of my son Thomas's children, and the oldest of my son Harry's children to get an eighth each: my daughter Ellen's oldest daughter, my daughter Emma's oldest daughter, my daughter Maria's daughter Grace Buck, and my grand daughter Louisa Martyr to get one eighth each. My land of 200 acres which I selected under Land Act 1869 I give to my son Thomas, his heirs and assigns for ever. In the event of any of my son's or daughter's children who are entitled to this one eighth share above mentioned, dying before obtaining possession of same, such share, shall be given to the eldest brother or sister surviving this person who would be entitled to such share. and I hereby appoint Hugh Doogan of Pyalong In the Probate papers Hugh Doogan is listed as being a licensed Victualer which is probably a publican . The amount of Probate was 675 Pounds. Hugh Doogan was also the Deputy Register at Pyalong, as when Eliza died, it is his signature on the death certificate. For someone who came out as a farm labourer, William had done well in his 25 years in Victoria. Emma died in 1895. She must have looked after William after Eliza died, to have been rewarded in such a manner. The eldest grand children had a long wait to inherit their share.
Noted events in his life were:
• Occupation: Farmer.
• connection.
• Death Certificate Number: (2987).
• connection. 453
