Richard was gored by a Bull when he was driving cattle along a road. The dog Rover bit the bull on the tail, so saved his life.
Richard was also grabbed by an old male kangaroo when riding through the Mallee scrub. Somehow he got out of that one.
Richard and his twin brother Edwin would run down dingoes. Richard once killed one with a stirrup iron. They would take the dingo around in a cart or dray for all the farmers to see. The farmers would give them money for killing a dingo.

A well-known resident of the Netherby district, Mr. Richard Hiscock died in the Nhill Hospital yesterday at the age of 63 years. Sympathy is extended to his widow, his twin brother, Edward (Netherby) and children, viz., William (Queensland), Robert (Yanac), Percy (Queensland), Jim (Lorquon), Ruby (Wolseley, S. A.), Alfred (Netherby). Following a service in St. George's Church of England, Nhill, conducted by the Rev. H. P. Lomas, the internment took place in the Nhill cemetery this afternoon. Mr. J. T. Whitehead had charge of the mortuary arrangements.

Richard married Rhoda Amy Heading, daughter of William Heading and Rhoda Sarah Cook, on 19 Oct 1905 in Victoria Australia. (Rhoda Amy Heading was born on 22 Aug 1885 in Lorquon, Victoria Australia, died on 26 Jul 1968 in Portland, Victoria Australia and was buried in Nhill Cemetery, Victoria Australia.)
