FATALITY ON HIGHWAY
WILLOWMARVIN RESIDENT’S DEATH.
The tragic accident near Kilmore on Saturday last cast a gloom over many present at the show, when it was learned that Mrs. Emma L. Goodman, of Willowmarvin, had been fatally injured in a collision between two cars on the Highway.
The accident occurred when the car driven by Miss Vera Goodman, accompanied by her mother and brother, Rupert, was turning on to the Highway from the Willowmarvin road intersection and was struck by a car travelling to Melbourne, driven by Mr. S. Goerney of St. Kilda. The car driven by Miss Goodman, which was travelling slowly, was struck side on and overturned and Mrs. Goodman received multiple injuries from which she died almost instantly; Miss Goodman received cuts and abrasions, and Mr. Goodman was unhurt, whilst the occupants of the other car escaped injury.
Obituary from the Kilmore Free Press, Thursday 2nd December 1948.
The tragic death of Mrs. Emma L. Goodman on Saturday afternoon last, as a result of an accident, removes from the Kilmore district one of its oldest and most highly respected residents. The late Mrs. Goodman was the third daughter of the late Tom and Eliza Hiscock and was born at Pyalong 73 years ago, where her father selected land. The family moved to the Kilmore district 58 years ago and the deceased later married the late Mr. Allan Goodman (Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Goodman) and there were two children of the union (Rupert and Vera). With her late husband the deceased carried on farming and dairying at “Pine Hill”, Willowmarvin, for many years and by hard work and thrift were successful, their property and surroundings being always a credit to them.
The late Mrs. Goodman enjoyed good health throughout her life and was at her usual duties on the morning of her tragic death. Although a retiring disposition, the deceased had a wide circle of friends, and she will be long remembered for her many kindly and thoughtful acts to those who have had the pleasure of her acquaintance.
Left to mourn their loss are her son (Rupert), a daughter (Vera), a sister (Miss Rachel Hiscock) and three brothers (George, Len and Tom Hiscock)
The internment was made in the Kilmore Cemetery on Monday last and the funeral was very largely attended by friends from throughout the district. Services at Christ Church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. C. H. Partridge and many beautiful floral tributes were received. The casket bearers were Messrs. J. Chapman, R. Bowers, J. Hiscock, and Mr. J. Goodman; pall-bearers, Crs. A. S. McNab, J. Tomlinson, Messrs. H. Wilkie, P. Kelleher, F. Bowers, E. Poulter snr, W. Freyne and J. Fanning; flower bearers, Messrs. R. Green, N.
