James Pearson, son of John and Jane (nee Small) Pearson who lived at Ashendon, Buckinghamshire, England, married Zilpah Andrews, daughter of Thomas and Jane (nee Miller) Andrews, a farmer from Upper Whinchendon, Buckinghamshire. They came to Australia with their daughter Sarah, aged 9 months, on the ship "Formosa", arriving at Port Jackson on the 20th May 1839. James Pearson Died 1881 and Zilpah in 1891 and are buried in the Marshall Mount Methodist Cemetery. James Pearson first found employment with Henry Osborne and he, together with his wife and family, contributed much to the district of Marshall Mount and as the family married and settled in other areas their knowledge of agriculture became evident at Albion Park, Bowral, Kangaaloon and on the north coast throughout the Richmond and Tweed Districrts. James Pearson and Zilpah had a family of nine, six daughters and three sons. The three sons had 45 children between them, George and Naomi (nee Dawes) lived at Cowlong, near Lismore, John and Annie (nee Barker) lived at Marshall Mount and Joseph and Mary Ann (nee Savell) at Kangaloon, their families in turn became great farmers , with a sound knowledge in all forms of agricultural pursuits. James Pearson worked as a "stable hand" for Queen Victoria, prior to making the decision to come to Australia. The Queen gave him 100 soverigns for his return fare back home, if dissapointed with things in the Colony.
