John Pearson settled on a farm fronting calderwood Road at Marshall Mount and when Mr Osborne made properties available for purchase John bought a piece of land and became a very practical farmer and great agriculturalist growing good crops.
John's son Joe helped Mrs Gower with work on her farm. Felix (his 10th son) cultivated the steep hills on his farm at Marshall Mount by contour ploughing so that heavy rain didn't wash the soil away, Ollie, working the home farm at Calderwood planted lucerne everywhere, when they had silo's and ground pits for conserving fodder, he won several District Fodder Conservation competitions.
