JOHN FAHNLINE, SR., DIES in IPSWICH, MASS.
TAKEN ILL WHILE ON MOTOR TRIP
Death Of Prominent Retired Construction Engineer, Widely Known For His Charitable Work, Comes As Decided Shock To The Community.
John Fahnline, Sr., age 68 years, 101 Euclid avenue, retired manufacturer, and prominent Sharon resident and philanthropist for more than 25 years, died very unexpectedly at 2:30 this morning in Benjamin Stickney Cable memorial Hospital, at Ipswich, Mass. 20 miles from Boston, after a week's illness with pneumonia, according to word received here by relatives, today.
Comes As Great Shock
His untimely death came as a great shock to his many friends and former business associates here, where he was held in the highest esteem.
Mr. Fahnline left Sharon by motor on July 26 for a tour of New England states, going from here to Ithaca, and thence to Watertown, N. Y., where his son, John, jr., a student at Cornell University, was attending the Cornell camp. From Watertown, Mr. Fahnline and his son motored to Montreal, Quebec and Portland, Me.
While enroute from Portland to Boston, last Thursday, Mr. Fahnline became ill and entered the hospital at Ipswich. It was not though his condition was serious. According to word received a few days ago here, hospital officials had said he would be confined here for two weeks, and he was thought to be improving.
Born in Michigan
Mr. Fahnline was born in Bay City, Mich., June 24, 1858 and had lived in Sharon for the past 25 years. He came here from New Castle, where, as a construction engineer, he had assisted in the building of several large plants. Previous to his residence in new Castle, he had been at Lynchburg, Virginia., where he had been interested in industrial expansion.
His wife, who was Miss Jennie Walls of New Castle died about 18 years ago. He leaves his son, John, Jr., and one sister, Mrs. Catherine Bayliss of Fairfax County, Virginia. Mrs. William Henning, 810 Lindon street, is a niece.
G. W. Short, Heinz avenue, a close friend of Mr. Fahnline, left this morning for Ipswich to accompany the body to Sharon. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

John Fahnline
John Fahnline, aged 66 years of Sharon, Pennsylvania., a former well known resident of New Castle, died early this morning in Boston, Mass., according to word received by his sister-in-law, Mrs. J. W. Walls of Galbreath Avenue.
Mr. Fahnline was touring the eastern stated accompanied by his son when he contracted pneumonia a few days ago and resulted in his death.
While living in this city he resided on South Mill Street. He was associated with the Old Red Mill Company. Before retiring about five years ago he was connected with the Seabury Driggs Company of Sharon.
He leaves one son, John Fahnline, Jr., of Sharon. The body will be brought to his home in Sharon.

On Thursday Miss Jennie Walls, sister of Chief of Police Walls, and Jno. Fahnline, the popular foreman at the Wire Nail Works, were united in marriage. Immediately after the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Fahnline left for the east and will visit Philadelphia, Boston and other cities before returning.
