Joseph Frederick Butler and his family lived at Cockle Bay Magnetic Island and had a dairy farm there from about 1897/8 to 1906/7. It's site is now [2006] the location of the Island's water treatment plant on the Cockle Bay Rd. For many years the ruins of this home was referred to by locals as the 'ghost house'.

Joseph Frederick was apparently at some time a contractor living at Lamington Road Townsville. He later moved to back to Sydney.

Joseph married Emily Louisa Williams in 1896 in Parramatta, Sydney, NSW Australia. (Emily Louisa Williams was born circa 1875.)
