His death certificate stated that he was an out-Pensioner with the Chelsea Hospital and had been with the 35th Regiment. Considering his age, this would likely mean that he was a combat vet of the Napoleonic Wars.

• Occupation. labourer

Joseph married Mary Ann (Hannah) Venn, daughter of Jesse Venn and Elizabeth, circa 1831. (Mary Ann (Hannah) Venn was born circa 1800 in Bristol, Gloucestershire England, christened on 7 Dec 1800 in St James, Bristol, Gloucestershire England and died in 1859 in Cookham, Berkshire England.)

Noted events in their marriage were:

• source. Alvin Chapman - chapnode [allian@internode.on.net] who notes:
In view of the details on the marriage certificate, is it likely that Joseph DIX and Mary Ann VENN did not marry, even though, as already indicated in the entry for DIX, their children were all christened with the family name of DIX at Bray, Berkshire, England. Joseph DIX was recorded as their father but Mary Ann's maiden name, unfortunately, was not included in the record.
