  Research Notes:

source: Alex & Robyn Leeflang who writes:
Uncle Thomas - how can I describe him, except to say I absolutely loved him. He was mentally disabled, even though he could read and write. He could be uncontrollable at times but my father could handle him. He appeared to be a normal little boy - I have a photograph of him and my grandfather sitting on the verandah of the house in Barraba - Uncle Tom would be about 2 years old in the picture. Apparently he was a lovely little boy but he contracted rheumatic fever and the family always thought that that was the cause of his later problems. Who knows? He spent time
in Gladesville Hospital and also Lidcombe - he died there, one of the saddest days of my life. I hadn't been married very long. Alex loved him
too. My Aunt Marjorie would take him from either home to come and stay with her but he would become difficult and she would always call my father to come and take him back to the home. I know it was a gut-wrenching thing for my father to have to do. It would happen often though. Uncle Tom always used to call me "Princess Margaret" !! On my wedding day, my aunt brought him to the church to see me - she had dressed him up as best she could and I remember taking a carnation out of my bouquet and placing it in his buttonhole and then giving him a huge hug.
