My father, as a young boy, was very shy apparently. He was living in
Barraba with his family and sometimes Aunt Annie wouold pay them a visit.
My father would take off and hide under the house until she had gone !. Not
very nice, I know, but from her picture she looked rather imperious and I
can imagine a child like my father being intimidated. I think she used to
give each child a coin when she visited but perhaps my father missed out, I
don't know ! My grandfather William was hampered by a wheelchair so he
wasn't able to take off after my father and make him stand with the other
children, but he could wield a big green stick if need be.
