[Bagby Family courtesy Audrey Hussey Bagby.FTW] Alfred Wagstaff was accused of the manslaughter of his wife Ann Povey. According to Coroner's records he assaulted her grievously several days before her death on 2.11.79. She was heavily pregnant at the time. See Coroner's notes Have now discovered via HO records at Kew that he was convicted of manslaughter and given 10 years. Warwick - Autumn Assizes - Midland Circuit - at PRO Kew. Return of persons committed to appear for trial and result of trial Assizes commenced 11th day of November 1879 No.23. Alfred Wagstaff - Manslaughter - 10 years penal servitude. (searched actual assize records for trial but not there) very few surviving. Perhaps we can now find the report in local newspapers. In 1881 we have found him on the Census for Kent. He was serving his sentence in Gillingham Gaol. RG11/0897 74 33 Alfred Wagstaff - Prisoner Wid. 37 b. Worcester
