  General Notes:

Mary Ann was transported to N.S.W on the "Asia"(7) arriving 30-1-1830.She was 20 years old and got 7 years for stealing clothes. She wasassigned to Mr.James Atkinson of Sutton Forest. On the same ship withMary was her young sister Catherine, also got 7 years for stealingclothes.

Zoe Cochrane notes:
I can see why the Hennessy side of the family all ended up coming over as convicts to Australia. Things were in a shocking state in Ireland, there was no work, there was famine and farmers were being charged outrageous rents. I think a lot of people who came to Australia as convicts could see their lives would be better here and after 7 years they would get their ticket of leave. From what I can gather, Mary Fogarty the mother must have died, and when Richard Hennessy was deported to Australia in 1822 the children were left to their own devices and had to fend for themselves, so they were obviously very resilient to have withstood what happened to them

Mary married William Henry Jeffery, son of James William Jeffery and Esther Davis, on 28 Mar 1831 in Sutton Forest, NSW Australia. (William Henry Jeffery was born on 17 Sep 1804 in London City, Middlesex England, christened on 7 Oct 1804 in St John, Hackney, London England,579 died on 7 Feb 1880 in Laggan, NSW Australia and was buried in St Saviours C of E Cathedral, Goulburn, NSW Australia.)
