Francis Devoy was born on July 15, 1847 at Merotherie, Leadville, NSW. He was the youngest child of James Devoy, a farmer of Kildare, Ireland and his wife Mary nee Colleton (Probably Carleton but misspelled due to the Irish accent) who arrived in Australia as Bounty Immigrants on the 'Royal sovereign' on December 16, 1840. Their daughters Margaret, Catherine and Bridget accompanied them while one son, James was left behind in Ireland. Two children, Maria and Francis were born in the colony.
He married Honora Maloney in the Catholic Church at Mudgee on February 9, 1875.
At the time of his death on October 28, 1931 he was living at Neilrex, Coolah Shire and his occupation was given as farmer & grazier. He was buried in the Gulgong cemetery.
