Noted events in her life were: • fact. John Morton emigrated to America in 1809, but returned to Scotland in 1812 to take over his family farm when his father died. He was guardian for some of the six Black children when their mother, who was his sister, and her husband both died just a few months apart. He kept a diary of events in America and Scotland which is very interesting in its descriptions. One account tells of a "very merry wedding of Scotchmen and Scotchmen's bairns and them that lay in Scotchmen's arms." He also details his wedding, birth of seven children, and the sad deaths of his wife of fifteen years and their three daughters between 1832 and 1835. Janet married James Black, son of Black and Unknown, on 21 May 1816 in Strathaven, near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland UK. (James Black was born circa 1795 in Strathaven, near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland UK and died circa 1829 in Strathaven, near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland UK.) |
