War Service

Claude was initially in the Middle East including Gallipoli then he we nt to France where he was wounded in Action in May 1917. He was hospital ised and invalided to England then returned to France in August 1917. Wit hin a fortnight Claude reported sick and was again invalided to Engla nd on the H.S. Carisbrook Castle with Synovitus of the left knee.

Claude had reached rank of Sergeant but reverted to the ranks when admitt ed to hospital (seems a little unfair).

When he reached England he was admitted to King George hospital with the S ynovitus on 25/9/1917.

In August 1918 Claude injured his right knee playing football. Claude w as operated on for this condition in 1918, still in England. In Septemb er 1919 Claude was still complaining of swelling and pain in knee on hea vy work.

Apparently the injuries made him unfit for General Service but fit for Ho me Service which was why he stayed in England for such an extended perio d. The disability was considered to be permanent but to be less than 20 %. Origins of injury vary but generally Jan 1916 in Heliopolis was accep ted by Medical Board as accidental injury

Next record is a Court of Enquiry Subject H3428 but no date given or reas on for Court of Enquiry.
