Possibly, Catherine Byrne did not come out to Australia. She might have died, and that could be why the sons left Ireland, especially as the youngest, Michael, was 16. There was also John, 22; James, 20; and Patrick, 18.
On the "Success", the boys are in company as "brothers" no mention of a mother, so the assumption is that she wasn't with them.

Catherine married Joseph Byrne. (Joseph Byrne was born in 1799 in Ireland UK, died on 9 Sep 1869 in Tarago, NSW Australia and was buried in Ryansvale "Springfield", Tarago, NSW Australia ⁶³⁴.)
