She receives a common school education at Lancaster, Iowa and later completed a correspondence course of Journalism, Authorship and Short Stories. She united with the Seventh Day Adventist church in 1889, and was engaged in missionary work for several years in the western states. She was teaching school as early as 1890.

Hannah married Theadore Harrison Ragan on 30 Apr 1878 in Arora, Kansas USA. (Theadore Harrison Ragan was born circa 1855 in Lancaster, Keokuk County, Iowa USA and died on 6 Mar 1916 in Switzer, Buena Vista, Colorado USA.)
