MARY GILMAN GRAY (Daniel, George, John, George, James ) was born in Munroe county, Ohio 4th march 1834; died at Lancaster, Keokuk County, Iowa 12th Sept. 1895; buried in the Pennington cemetery ; married at Lancaster, Iowa 30th April 1855, Charles Albert Johnson. She was a member of the Christian church. Charles Albert Johnson was born in Yester, Sweden, 8th May 1825; died at Sigourney, Iowa 16th Aug., 1902 and was buried beside his first wife Mary G. (Gray) in the Pennington cemetery. He came to the United States about 1844, at which his name was Johanas Karl Albert Nurdquist; in the United States he eventually found this name to be cumbersome and inconvenient and therefore made the change to Charles Albert Johnson. He is said to have been a first cousin to the Swedish Nightingale, Jenny Lynn. He served in the Union Army as a private, three years and four months, in the late Civil War, in company D, 13th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. He married a second time but we have no records of his marriage; no children by this second marriage.

(1)Charlotte Buel Johnson, b. 27th Feb. 1856; m. Lory Miller in 1881, and died of Consumption, 20th Jan.1891; buried in the Pennington cemetery near Lancaster. Iowa. Children :- (i) Sheldon Miller, (ii) Albert Miller, (iii) Mary Miller.
(2)Hannah Jeannette Johnson, b 28th Aug. 1858; m. at Arora, Kans., 30th april 1878, Theadore Harrison Ragan, also of Lancaster, Iowa; died at the home of his daughter Nellie Maud (Ragan- Toohey) Switzer, in Buena Vista, Colo. 6th march 1916. She receives a common school education at Lancaster, Iowa and later completed a correspondence course of Journalism, Authorship and Short Stories. She united with the Seventh Day Adventist church in 1889, and was engaged in missionary work for several years in the western states. She was teaching school as early as 1890. She had :-
(i)Bernard Ragan, b. 18th July, 1877 in Blue River, Neb.; d. same day.
(ii)Elton Elroy Ragan, b. 27th July, 1880 at Sutton, Neb.
(iii)Nellie Maud Ragan, b. 29th Nov. 1882 at Sappaton, Kans.; married 1st, at Cripple Creek, Colo. , 21st July 1903, Edward W. Toohey of Chateauguay, N.Y.; married 2nd , near the close of 1915 or Jan. 1916, C.O.Switzer of Buena Vista, Colo. She had by her 1st husband. :-
(a) Martin Edward Toohey, b. 8th may, 1904; d. 25th July 1907; buried at Leadville, Colo.
(b)Opal Estella Toohey, b. 17th Oct. 1905; d. 10th April 1908; buried ,Leadville, Colo.

(3) Alice Lovina Johnson, b. 10th July 1860; d. in March 1914; m. at Lancaster, Iowa, 5th Sept. 1875, Charles Bentley Pike. She was a member of the Christian church, and for some years prior to her death she lived in Lancaster, Kans. Charles Bentley Pike, son of Charles and Maria (Sollers) was born in Burlington, Iowa. He was a farmer. Children:-
(i)James Sanford Pike, b. 3rd March 1878 in Lancaster, Iowa; d. 22nd Sept. 1878.
(ii)Daisy Dee Pike, b. 23rd Nov. 1879; d. 19th Sept. 1881.
(iii)Tra Ernest Pike, b. 6th Feb. 1883 at Kraft, Colo; m. 5th Feb 1898, at Effingham, Kans., Nellie Martha Calhoun. They had (1916) :-

(4) Albert Percy Johnson, b. 29th May. 1862; m. 9th july 1891, at Sigourney, Iowa, Viola may Passig.
He graduated M.D. at the Iowa State Medical College, in Iowa City in 1886, and at Missouri Medical College, and at the St Louis Post Graduate College in St Louis, Mo. in 1891. He is (1916), and has for quite a number of years, been practicing in Sigourney, Iowa and the surrounding country. In 1912 he was in the employ of the state of Iowa, delivering lectures at different places over the state on the subject of tuberculosis. He has a beautiful home in Sigourney, and to all appearances is in a prosperous position.
Viola May Passig was born 9th May 1865 at Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa. She is a daughter of Henry F.D. and Kate (Keller) Passig, and was educated at the State Normal School in Iowa City and taught school for some time.

(6)George Johnson, b. 17th June 1867; d. 20th June 1867.

(8)Swan Elam Johnson ( called "Elam"), b. 22nd May 1875; m. at Washington, Iowa, 21st Aug., 1900, Laura May Reighard, who was born in Talleyrand, Iowa 24th Sept 1881.
