He has no children. He early developed a taste for the brush and colours and while yet a mere boy, produced some very attractive work. He was an early student under Runde. Many of his portraits may be found in the White House, The United States Capital Building and in many of the State Capital buildings. Among his leading productions are "The Violin Maker", "Opie Read", "A.T. Packard", "Eugene Field", "Hon. Frank A. Vanderlip", "Senator Cummings" of Iowa, 'John McGovern", "Mark Twain", "Dr. John B. Murphy", of Chicago, "John E. Wright", "William Knox", "H.W. Seymore and Family", "Chief Justice Seevers" of Iowa, "President William McKinley", "President Theodore Roosevelt", "Premier Gladstone", and many others.
