Ken Gray notes:
He and his first wife, in1874, travelled with the Montgomery Union Show as actors and performers. At the close of the season they dissolved partnership with the show and lived sometime in Clark County, Iowa; from there he removed to Talleyrand, Iowa living there until 1778, when he, and his family, moved to Nodaway County, Mo. He continued to live in that county until 1908 when he removed to Edwards, Benton County, Mo. where he had a large farm. He lived there a few years, then rented his farm and moved to Warrensburg, Mo. where he kept a grocery store. The store burned down and was a total loss. He taught school in Keokuk County, and Potawatomie County, Iowa in the early days.


Joshua married Ida May Truesdell on 1 May 1870 in Red Oak, Iowa USA. (Ida May Truesdell was born on 16 Dec 1851 in La Porte, Indiana USA and died in Burlington Junction, Montana USA.)
