Natham Little officiating. He immigrated to Iowa from Ohio, first, in the spring of 1842. He worked for some time for a man named Reynolds, then travelled sometime through southern states (during the slavery days) but was very unfavourably impressed with conditions as he found them among slaves and slave owners. In 1844 he returned to Ohio and made preparations to move his family to Iowa and in the spring of 1845 he removed with his wife and two children to what is now, Talleyrand, Keokuk County, Iowa buying a part of the farm of Daniel Stevens. He was one of the pioneers in that part of Iowa. Part of Talleyrand was laid out on his farm. (Talleyrand, Iowa has about ceased to exist as a town - in 1916 they still had a post office but that was about all there was left of what was once a thriving village). In 1856 he sold his farm and took his family back to Ohio to visit relatives; returning the ensuing year, bought a prairie farm three miles west of Talleyrand. Some years later he was a land salesman for C. H. Moore and David Davidson in disposing a large tract of raw prairie land in Southern Iowa. He continued to live on his farm there until 1882 when he went to Arkansas to visit his daughter, Mrs. Daniel K. Dill. He then, accompanied by his son Joseph Daniel Gray, made a tour of some of the southern states, intending to purchase land in New Mexico. He finally decided not to go so far and bought a farm near Sedan Kans. Where spent the remainder of his life. His wife, Eliza (Luckey) was born near Mariette, Ohio 9th May 1817; died at Quitman, Mo. 9th April 1893; buried in the Tyrone Cemetery
