George worked as a labourer and bullock driver during the 1870's 1880's. In 1888 Georges father, Stephen, set George up in a butcher shop in Taradale. He continued in this businessuntil 1896. He then went into various mining ventures around Taradale and eventually joined his two sons, Ted and Cliffe in their bakery and store business in Taradale.

George married Adeline Matilda Mobbs, daughter of Isaac Mobbs and Ann Bellamy. (Adeline Matilda Mobbs was born in 1857 ⁸⁷⁰.)

George next married Mary Jane White, daughter of William White and Fanny Broad, in 1878 in Melbourne, Victoria Australia. (Mary Jane White was born in Mar 1856 in Towednack, Cornwall England and died on 2 Oct 1940 in Castlemaine, Melbourne, Victoria Australia ⁹².)
