  Research Notes:

Helen Sasia notes:
EDWIN was born in 1818 in Rowley Regis and became a corn dealer living for a time with his brother Philip. He married fairly late in life at the age of 40, marrying Sarah Jane Bate ( always known as Jane) and they had four children, Elizabeth, Edwin Herbert, Harry Arthur, and Horace Dixon.( who only lived to be two years old)

EDWIN himself had a chequered history having been tried( and happily acquitted) for manslaughter. In 1865 he briefly worked as a coal master with his brother Joseph but after a bad accident at the Witheymore Mine that they co-owned they both were declared bankrupt and he returned to his former occupation as a corn dealer and ultimately also a miller. His second son Harry followed in his footsteps and became a corn merchant too. Edwin lived to be 84

Noted events in his life were:

• Resided, 1913, Rushey Lane, Yardley, Birmingham England.

Edwin married Sarah Jane (Jane) Bate, daughter of Benjamin Bate and Sophia Woodhouse, on 12 Jun 1860 in St Martins, Birmingham, Warwickshire England. (Sarah Jane (Jane) Bate was born on 10 Aug 1834 in Rowley Regis, Staffordshire England and died on 1 Feb 1904 in 8 Fawdry St, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire England 1111.)
