Phyllis left home at 14 to be a domestic servant, sje joined the WAAFs to serve in WW2 and worked in catering at a Lioncolnshire Airbase, she won the oakleaf medal for bravery. She met and married Walter Konter a German POW who stayed in 1952, they lived in Caythorpe where both her children were born and then they moved for Walters work with Hammonds needles to Loughborough Leics, where she lived her life out at 119 Paget Street. She died in 1998 ten years after Walter of Bowel cancer and secondary liver cancer. Her illness lasted for only a few weeks. She passed away in Glenfield Hospital Leicester - she did not recover from a bowel operation. Despite living in a Town she retained her love of nature throughout her life and was an excellent seamstress and gardner.
