Margaret was born c1845 in Balmain. Margaret was Donald and Margaret's third child. She does not appear to have been baptised, and so her exact date of birth is unknown. Margaret presumably lived with her family in the Yass district up until her early teens. She lived with her parents at Bowning, NSW in June 1850. She lived with her parents at Yass in October 1852. She lived with her parents at Lime Creek, in the District of Yass in January 1859.

Margaret married Hugh Joseph Sutherland, son of Hector Sutherland and Margaret (Mary) McKay, on 31 Oct 1865 in South Lead, near Forbes, NSW Australia. (Hugh Joseph Sutherland was born on 14 Aug 1841 in Tongue, Scotland UK, died on 21 Aug 1913 in 44 Cook Rd, Moore Park, Sydney, NSW Australia and was buried in Waverley Cemetery, Sydney, NSW Australia.)
