On an unknown date he got in trouble with the police and was charged, along with 2 others, with stealing the coat, trousers and vest of a man [at L] but a witness said that 'his father occupied a high position in Cobar' and the jury subsequently returned a verdict of 'not guilty'. Hugh was born on 10 August 1883 at Cobar, NSW. His mother died giving birth to him.
Hugh married Florence May Hemsley, daughter of Hugh Morrius Liebgeber Pike and Martha Hemsley, on 5 Feb 1908 in Cobar, NSW Australia.738 (Florence May Hemsley was born in 1878 in Glebe, Sydney, NSW Australia and died in 1933 in Armidale, NSW Australia.)
