Kate Emma (Sissy) Morris
General Notes: Peter Morris notes: Emma was known as 'Sissy' and had six children to William Henry Stenlake, who came to the colony from Plymouth in Devonshire in 1862. He owned a group of cake shops in the Rockhampton district. William Henry was listed as a confectioner of 36 William Street, Rockhampton and was living at 182 Denham Street in 1903. Previously, the establishment was known as the Stenlake Fitzroy Steam Biscuit & Confectionary Works and it had as an off-shoot for many years, Stenlake's Café in East Street. In 1910 a rival, Medcraf, sold his business to Stenlake and 'Christmas stockings became one of his specialties and each year in January he sent his factory manager, his nephew James Bruce, to Brisbane to buy German toys ready for the next season …At the height of the firm's production about one hundred and fifty men and girls employed … '. Kate Emma and William Henry had six children: Noted events in her life were: • connection. Kate married William Stenlake. (William Stenlake was born circa 1865, died on 2 May 1940 1092 and was buried in Waverley Cemetery, Sydney, NSW Australia.) |
