William married Jane Triplett, daughter of John Triplett and Elizabeth Hancock, on 4 Sep 1851 in Kapunda, South Australia. 'On Wednesday last Mr and Mrs William Harris who have resided in Tothill's Creek for 44 years celebrated their Golden Anniversary. A large number of neighbours from far and near assembled at Mr Harris's residence to offer their congratulations. Mr S. Dawson who presided, said he had known Mr Harris for over 30 years, had always found him ready and willing to do good for anyone, Mr Rehder gave the toast of the evening. 'The guest' in doing so referred to the many good qualities of Mr Harris, he replied and was cheered. He said he and Mrs Harris were passengers on the ship 'Pakenham', arrived Adelaide March, 1849. They married in Kapunda 14th August, 1851. Mr S.J. Hancock (son-in-law) presented the aged couple with a handsome easy chair on behalf of the family. He spoke of harmony and good feeling which existed in the family. Many other presents were given by friends.'
