I can state that according to an interview that he gave in later years, he likely came out in late January of 1859 as he got to Australia in time to spend his 13th birthday in Wollongong after coming out alone. My guess is that after his half-sister Elizabeth Dix married in Wollongong in 1856, she wrote back to Maidenhead and invited John George out here to live with them. Likely then he left about October 1858 then as replies back and forth took about three months each way back then.
