I never knew my maternal grandfather Herbert James Fishlock because he was killed in the first year of WW1 in 1914. My late mother never knew him either as she was born in 1913. Mum always grieved very much over the father she never knew, especially on Remembrance Day in November of each year. My second Christian name is Herbert, named after my grandfather.
