At the date of his marriage his occupation was shown as `necklace`. During 1st World War served in 1st Battalion Prince Albert`s (1st Somerset Light Infantry). Regimental No. 6762. Enlistment Location: Chippenham, Wilts. Rank: Private. Type of Casualty: Killed in action on 9 Nov. 1914 at Le Cateau. Name recorded in Golden Book of Remembrance in St Martins Chapel at Wells Cathedral (page 180). Herbert Fishlock`s name is also recorded on the Ploegsteert Memorial in Belgium which is one of the war memorials erected by the Imperial War Graves Commission to commemorate the names of officers and men who fell in the Great War, and whose graves are not known. His name is also recorded on a WWI Memorial Brass Plaque inside the porch of the Church of St Michael and All Angels in Kington St Michael.

I never knew him because he was killed in the first year of WW1 in 1914. My late mother never knew him either as she was born in 1913.
Mum always grieved very much over the father she never knew, especially on Remembrance Day in November of each year.


Herbert married Edith Lily Williams, daughter of Edward Daniel Williams and Sarah Anne Weaver, on 3 Oct 1905 in Glyntaff, Glamorganshire, Wales UK. (Edith Lily Williams was born on 19 Feb 1881 in Nantymoel Hotel, Llandyfodwg, Maesteg, Wales UK and died in 1965 in Bromyard, Herefordshire England.)
