Edith Lilian - was a remarkable mother and grandmother who had to work hard to bring up her family after her first husband was killed in the first year of the 1st World War. She used to have a produce and flower stall in Hereford Market, and during and after the 2nd World War she was responsible for providing local hop pickers for one of the leading Herefordshire hopyards owned by a Mr Dent. Each year for about three weeks two to three busloads of pickers would be picked up and taken early to the hopyards and brought home again in the late evening. She had overall responsibility for delivering the pickers, and arranging for their belongings to be transported by the farmer to the farm for the duration of picking. Her home in Hunderton was used as the pay office by Mr Dent, who paid the pickers in arrears at the end of the hop season. She was a matriarch and she loved her children, grandchildren, and her sons and daughters in law.
