Corowa Hospital - A shocking accident happened on Wednesday afternoon at a bout 4 o'clock at Fairfield, Rutherglen, to a man named James Patrick Good win, aged 26 years, who was admitted to the above insitution at 7pm the sa me day.
Goodwin was employed by Messers G F Morris & Sons as a shearer. The shed h ad only cut out on Wednesday, and he and a mate were grinding axes, intend ing to compete at a wood chopping contest next day.
The grindstone was driven by a belt from an engine and it was when pushi ng off the belt his right arm was caught, and he was drawn on to the engi ne shaft and turned round three times before being released. His arm was c ompletely torn off below the elbow. He also recieved a deep incision und er the eye, and was badly bruised about the body. On being admitted it w as found necessary to amputate the arm above the elbow.
Drs Short and Lang performed the operation. The patient is in a very criti cal condition. The patients parents reside at Wodonga, and he is a neph ew of Mr John Goodwin, of Redlands.

The young man, James Patrick Goodwin, who was admitted to the hospit al on Wednesday evening last with the loss of his right arm, besides suffe ring from other serious injuries, the result of an accident at GF Morr is & Sons, Rutherglen, died in the above institution on Friday morning.

James died as a result of shock, multilation of arm and forearm followi ng a machinery accident.
