My uncle, William Mair, also sea captain, used to sail to Hamilton Ontario, through the Lakes, and knew some Mair relations there. He'd had a row with the rest of the family, and although I lived in Hamilton for some time and Ewan was born there, I didn't know Uncle Willie was so close. I was his favourite when I was "wee little" but, as I said, he was estranged when I was quite young.
